Further to the Marcus Stewart story from earlier this afternoon some of the younger Town players have signed new deals. Justin Miller, Ashley Nicholls and Lee Beevers are all committing themselves to new contracts, in Beevers' case his first. |

Fabian Wilnis has said he will fight for his first team place. The Dutchman looks the obvious candidate to miss out now that George Burley has signed Chris Makin, like Wilnis primarily a right-back. Town manager George Burley told Wilnis he was about to bring in another defender so Makin's arrival was no surprise to the Dutchman. |

George Burley has confirmed that Town will not take any part in the Intertoto Cup if they don't qualify for Europe the traditional channels. The Town manager said as much in his webcast a couple of weeks back and it seems now a formal decision has been made. |

The two Scarborough trialists currently with Town have been named as David Pounder and Ashley Lyth. Pounder is variously described as a promising striker or a midfielder while Lyth is a young defender. |

Goalkeepers played an important part in Town's reserves' defeat at home to Watford. Mike Salmon missed out with a knee injury, James Pullen was controversially sent off and sub Lee Hulyer made a spectacular howler. |

Town continue to await Alun Armstrong's decision on whether he becomes a Town player. The Middlesbrough man returned to the North-East yesterday to discuss the move with his wife. Prior to this he had passed a medical and the Blues had even called a press conference for 3pm. However, the former Stockport man needed more time and is currently mulling Town's offer over. |

Town are set to leave out several key players for tonight's Worthington Cup game at Highbury. Mark Venus, Jim Magilton, Richard Naylor and James Scowcroft have all failed to train in the last couple of days and all are likely to miss out. George Burley has said players will only play if they are 100% fit in the Worthington Cup. That means there could be starting places for Martijn Reuser, David Johnson (renewing his early season partnership with David Johnson) and Titus Bramble. |
